CENTER CITY. If you plan to spend your day in Philly beating the pavement and bopping into and out of the shops around Rittenhouse Square, do your constitution a favor and also plan to stop a few minutes at the Radisson's Capriccio's Coffee Bar. Here, in addition to cappuccinos, lattes and espressos, they also serve up some rather tasty munchables, including several different types of pastries and sandwiches.

OLD CITY. This comfortable little shop is a great place to "fuel up" in the AM if you plan to tackle the popular Constitutional Walking Tour. Aside from all your favorite coffee drinks (good energizers, to be sure), Caramel also has some dandy, homemade tide-me-overs like Belgian chocolate bars, cookies and candies. In the afternoon, the menu changes a bit, offering terrific panini, specialty sandwiches, salads and soups. And while those are all tasty in their own right, you'd be remiss if you didn't leave room for a bit of dessert sampling ­ perhaps a tartlet or a slice of tiramisu (just $5).

CENTER CITY. Muffins, cookies, brownies ­ You'll find none of that at this fashionable cafe. No, the proprietors aren't bakers. They are roasters, dedicated to producing outstanding coffee. That said, it may surprise that La Colombe focuses on making only five distinctive blends: rich Corisca, robust Phocea, sweet Nizza, light Beaulieu, and full-bodied Monte Carlo.
